Overview. Bullseye ThinFire Shelf Paper is a ceramicimpregnated kiln shelf paper that provides excellent separation between glass and kiln shelf in firing applications up to 1600F 871C. Compared to other ceramic fiber materials, ThinFire is lightweight, creates less binder burnout odor, and produces a glossier finish on the shelf side of your project.
What Is Kiln SelfPaper. Kiln ShelfPaper is a lightweight, heatresistant ceramic saturated paper. Kiln Shelf Paper can only fire up to 1600 degrees before it starts curling up and burning away. With that said, Kiln Shelf Paper is best suited for very low firing. Cone 011 1582F 861C to cone 022 1094F 590C
Kilns can be quite safe to use, even at home, when you follow some basic precautions. Due to the high temperatures, firing a kiln releases volatile compounds into the air, many of which are toxic. You will need to use these safety procedures and tips to prevent injury.
An alternative to kiln wash is kiln paper, which performs the same function as kiln wash but instead comes in the form of a thin, paperresembling sheet that disintegrates after firing. It is quicker and easier to use, but it is more expensive.
Making a paper kiln is relatively easy, and the firing process is particularly exciting and interesting. I am not so sure as to the origins of this type of kiln, but I would guess it is a fairly modern experimental approach, providing an alternative firingsmoking technique to the more traditional processes.
REUSING THINFIRE PAPER . By Alicyn Drew of Alexandria, Virginia . I have noticed that sometimes Thinfire paper sticks to the glass as I lift it, and other times I can lift the glass and leave behind a perfect layer of Thinfire. Since it39s not cheap, I decided to figure out how to get more than one use out of it.
The one time use paper will decinagrate which is then easily deposed of. Usage, Clean up Safety Use ThinFire as you would any lighter weight ceramic fiber material on the kiln shelf. A single layer of paper will prevent molten glass from sticking to your shelf at full fusing temperatures 14501500 Fahrenheit.
Use 1834 shelf paper to line your kiln shelf for multiple firings and to emboss a gentle texture. Place between glass layers to create an opening, great for making kiln formed beads and bracelets. In dimensional work cut and layer shapes for relief designs. Also referred to as Shelf Paper Thick. Sheets measure 2434 x 2434 x 1834 thick.
Fusing Supplies Kiln Shelf Paper 18 Thick This slightly thicker Fiber Paper can be use to create dimensional kiln fired glass work or used as a separator for brick walls. Great for making kiln formed beads and bracelets. Use it in layers to create glass shapes and refilefs. Place it betwee glass layers to create an opening.
Its important you use basic safety practices while using any kiln shelf release paper including Papyros. Wear gloves while handling kiln paper, avoid breathing residual dust when cutting prefused or postfired Papyros paper, wear a respirator that is NIOSHapproved for dust, and wear safety glasses with side shields.
Reusing Kiln Carving Fiber Paper Kiln carving is a terrific technique that allows you to make custom designs out of fiber paper and impress them in the glass during fusing. The down side is you typically can use your fiber paper kiln carving pattern only once.
Because of my ceramics background, I still choose to vent my kiln when firing glass. The kiln paper and glue may have trace amounts of noxious byproducts, and I like to play it safe. You can read more about venting your kiln here and make the decision for yourself Test it out.
free cloth FIG. 3. If using fusing glue to hold your glass project in place, make sure the glue is completely dry before firing. Step 4 Firing Glass 1. Cut a square of kiln paper to fit the base of the Fuseworks Microwave Kiln. Place paper on the kiln base. Kiln paper is only good for one firing. 2. Layer cut glass on top of kiln paper

Technical stuff with kiln paper. For a very long time I have been using the thin fire kiln paper that I buy from Warm Glass. One day last week , I did the same thing I do every day when loading my kiln. I clean it all out, usually with the hoover to make sure there is no dirt or dust in there. Then I carefully cut out my kiln paper to fit the
Fusing with Fiber Paper on Molds. Most glass artists are familiar with fusing on molds to give glass texture, and with kiln carving to give glass a pattern. But, did you know you can combine the two Its easier than you think. This tutorial shows this technique using bottle glass, but it works just the same for flat glass.
